Troubleshooting

I'm using the brand-new Last OS Linux on Linux Mint 22.2. It's built with the latest Linux kernel 6.14. Unfortunately, it's pointless to upgrade to Linux Mint, but simply repeating their mistakes is completely pointless. I wish I had. I've tested 15 different USB Wi-Fi adapters, and none are recognized. It says "USB Wi-Fi adapter with this driver," but unfortunately, it's not activated because it's not installed in the directory. What a pity!
Gparted is also not up to date.
But it's very nice and very helpful that they keep all the programs up to date.
I want to finally use a perfect Linux operating system for everyday use so I can finally forget about Windows 11.

I've been getting the AC WiFi 6 adaptors for $7 and both kinds worked out of the box in all Linux I tried.

I do have a Netgear and a tplink one that doesn't work though.

Even the one without a case I grabbed out if an internal USB port in a set top box works.

So someone needs to make abbigblist of supported devices.

Pretty sure this is the same as the one I got from my local shop that works, I have 8 of them, only 3 left now, but they seem to be 100% compatible with Linux and Windows without extra drivers needed.

Actually that one is slightly different:

This one is the actual one, only the one left in stock here, but maybe you can seek it out. Search for "600m wireless USB adaptor"

I have just installed LastOSLinux Mint22.2 on MacBook 2008 'White model' and WIFI as I expected didn't work - in preparation for the occasion, I purchased a wifi dongle on Amazon which specifically says it works on Linux

It didn't get installed as part of the installation, I actually don't remember if I had it slotted in, I rather think not. It didn't work when connected and all it took to make it work was launching Driver Manager and let it do its thing. It offered this which I accepted, it installed the driver and now the usb wifi works.

I connect it via 4 port USB3 extender connected to laptop's USB2 port via a short flexible cable because I don't like to have rigid USB keys sticking out from laptop side since that is calling for their breaking off if accidentally hit (either usb key or the usb port or both getting damaged).

This WIFI dongle is not among the cheapest (its Canadian dollars) but if it works, it is worth both money and time.

It is essential you have a USB WiFi... just in case, you can get the internal one working in some cases, but as I have said before, the Apple hardware often has dropouts or fails to enter the SSID Key successfully even though you know it's correct. So it's better to do it the way you have. I use the Orange AC USB WiFi Adaptors and they've never let me down - they cost a tiny amount:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005937636642.html, I've got them for less than $4 AUD each and the more you get they get even cheaper. They work with Linux and they work in Windows without any drivers being needed (inbuilt), so perfect for any uses. The range is pretty good on them too.

Exactly, wifi has a flaky behavior on Macs when it appears to work (the older ones anyway). As you say, it offers to save the SSID key but then won't connect or I have even had brief moments when it seemed to connect but there was no internet and the apparent connection vanished in short time.
