This is due to numlockx running on first login, many laptops without a num pad change the keys on the right to numbers. Find how to disable numlock on your laptop - else copy and paste this terminal command to disable it:
numlockx off
Alternatively plug in a USB keyboard and press the numlock key or type the above command manually from terminal.
I choose to enable NumLock by default as it's how I've always done it, finding the FN + Num Lock key on laptops that do not have numpads is how I usually turn it back off - it stays off once you shutdown the PC with it off.
